The details of support available can change, so before you apply it's best to speak to the named contact to check exactly what they offer.

At Abertay we welcome students from all walks of life, and pride ourselves in being able to provide an excellent experience for all.

At Abertay we offer individual support based on the needs of care leavers. As a care leaver, your named person can offer support in all aspects of student life, including emotional, practical and academic support.

We have excellent links with local authority and voluntary sector organisations to provide support. Our care-experienced students can engage with as much or as little of the support available as they wish.

We can offer an informal chat before or after you apply or are accepted, to let you know more about Abertay and what we offer, as well as a look round our campus if this would be helpful.

Our accommodation office can offer a maximum 51 week lease – but we can offer assistance if needed for the additional week not covered.

You can contact our care leavers' named person Stacie Robertson at 01382 308833 or advisory@abertay.ac.uk if you have any questions or would like to arrange a chat/visit.

As part of the financial support package available to students, the Student Awards Agency for Scotland gives money to institutions to help provide financial assistance to students whose access to higher education might be inhibited by financial considerations, or who face financial difficulties in completing their studies.

These funds are known as discretionary funds. Awards are tailored to an individual's circumstances and include funding for childcare. We are in the process of developing a bursary from this fund, which would include specific support for care leavers.

Applications are lightly means-tested and awards are non-repayable. Unfortunately awards cannot be made to help students meet the cost of their tuition fees.

Applications are available online or in an alternative format, by request. For queries regarding funding support, please contact the advisory service by emailing advisory@abertay.ac.uk, or by phoning and requesting to speak with Funding Adviser on 01382 308833.
