The details of support available can change, so before you apply it's best to speak to the named contact to check exactly what they offer.
Kingston University has been awarded Higher Education Institution of the Year for Widening Access for the second year running (NEON Awards 2017), and our care leaver support programme (KU Cares) has contributed significantly to this success.
KU Cares will support you throughout your student journey, from application through to graduation and beyond. We provide regular opportunities for you to interact with staff and other students. We also provide priority for accommodation, with a 365-day option (including a £300 booking fee waiver), and we are also a UNITE Foundation partner university, enabling new care leavers to apply for a full accommodation scholarship.
We offer exclusive tailored employment and placement opportunities (paid). In addition to this we allocate KU Cares students to a designated personal tutor within their faculty, to ensure that you are fully supported to succeed in your course.
Our recently developed graduation package supports and celebrates your success by providing a complimentary gown hire and photography package, a celebratory graduation meal hosted by the KU Cares team, and a £1,000 graduation bursary.

If you are facing hardship you can receive tailored money advice and support from experts within our student services department, and also have access to both the university-wide and a specific care leaver hardship fund. This fund can also be used to support students who wish to access other opportunities that the university offers, such as study abroad or other field trips where costs are incurred.
A £1,000 graduation bursary is paid to KU Cares Care Leavers and Estranged students who successfully complete their degree programme, in order to support our students with any costs incurred at this stage (such as rental deposits), and to alleviate the pressures of finding instant employment upon graduation.
We also offer four full fee waivers and four £5,000 bursaries for students from a forced migrant background; who hold temporary status and are therefore ineligible to apply for student finance.
