Nelson College London prides itself with being able to provide access to higher education to the widest possible range of backgrounds which includes Care Leaver Students. The College defines Care Leaver as students who at any stage of their lives have experienced care, including those who have been adopted.

The College has a Student Welfare team who are dedicated to supporting Care leavers from the moment they are interested in studying at Nelson College London right through to progressing into further studies or employment.

The Student Welfare team are always available as we have an open door policy (no booking appointments), to support students overcome any barriers whilst at the College.

Care leavers students are offered the following support at each stage of the student lifecycle at the College:

  • A pre-sessional induction event
  • Support at application stage
  • On-course Support which includes from one-to-one support
  • Bursary Package
  • One to one sessions with the Student Welfare Officer
  • Support on progression opportunities
  • Free access to Talk Campus app – A safe space to get instant support for your mental health any time of day and night.

Accommodation we offer

  • A place to live all year round

  • Support for those with discretionary leave to remain
  • Financial advice

Nelson College London wishes to ease any financial burden students are facing to ensure they are able to focus on obtaining their intended qualification.

The College currently has in place a Bursary Package which is available to all Care leaver student. The students would be entitled to £1,000 per academic year which the student is able to apply for once enrolled onto the course.

The Student Welfare Team, available at both campuses, are always on hand to help with any queries regarding the financial support available.
