The details of support available can change, so before you apply it's best to speak to the named contact to check exactly what they offer.

In order to support you in applying, arriving and succeeding at Swansea University, we offer a range of services to students who have been in care.

We can assist with your initial application and arrange visits to the university; and the Swansea University care leavers' compact deal allows eligible students to receive a reduction in their required A-level grade (or equivalent).

The university offers year-round accommodation in your first year, and help to find private accommodation should you need it.

Even before you apply, your named contact will be available to offer support and advice on all aspects of university life, from student funding and budgeting to study skills or disability issues. They will then be on-hand throughout the duration of your course to offer ongoing assistance, as and when you require it.

You will be able to access advice about part-time work and career planning and, once the time comes for you to graduate, we can offer financial assistance for your graduation ceremony.

Find out more about all the support on offer by visiting the dedicated pages on the Swansea University website: www.swansea.ac.uk/undergraduate/fees-and-funding/studentswithadditionalconsiderations/care-leavers/.

At Swansea University we aim to offer a comprehensive package of financial support for students who are also care leavers, ranging from help to fund your initial visit to an open day, to regular financial support throughout your degree.

In order to ensure that the cost of travel is not a barrier to you attending an open day and/or interview, we may be able to reimburse your travel costs.

If you have arrived and enrolled and find that your student funding has been delayed, we can offer short-term financial support in the form of a small cash loan or, if your funding is going to take some time to arrive, a non-repayable award to help meet your essential living costs, such as food and travel.

You may also be eligible to receive our specific care leaver bursary, which amounts to £1,000 in each year of your course. The bursary is available in addition to any other financial support you may receive, and you can access it by getting in touch with one of our named contacts once you arrive.

Postgraduate students can access a one-off bursary of £1,000. Swansea University also provides bursaries to students from lower income backgrounds – more information is available at: www.swansea.ac.uk/scholarships/income-related-bursaries.
